Q: What is Measure W?
A: Our local community colleges, West Valley and Mission Colleges, are essential to our local economy and are critical stepping stones to good-paying jobs and universities. The District Board of Trustees voted to place Measure W on the November 2018 ballot. Measure W is a $698 million dollar local education bond measure to repair and upgrade our local community colleges to help ensure local students, workers, and veterans continue to have access to affordable education, university transfer, and job training.
Q: What will Measure W do?
A: YES on W will:
- Maintain affordable, high-quality education and job training for local students and returning veterans
- Update educational facilities and technology to prepare students for 21st century jobs
- Equip students with the skills they need to be competitive in fields including nursing, engineering, and firefighting
Q: Why vote YES on W?
A: As the cost of U.C. and Cal State University systems continue to rise, West Valley and Mission Colleges are an essential resource for students seeking university transfer, specialized job training, or as an educational resource for veterans returning to civilian life. Measure W will help families save thousands of dollars while helping students prepare for 21st century jobs in this fast-pace environment
Q: Is YES on W fiscally accountable?
A: YES. By law, Measure W must be spent on our local West Valley and Mission Colleges serving over 20,000 students and veterans in the communities of Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale and San Jose.
Measure W requires financial audits and Independent Citizen Oversight to ensure funding is spent as promised, and NO money can be spent on administrative salaries or taken by Sacramento. ALL funding must be spent on our local colleges.
